Job Description
As a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Telemetry, you will provide critical care for patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring and observation. Telemetry nurses work with patients who are at risk of or recovering from cardiovascular events, ensuring their vital signs are consistently monitored and any changes are quickly addressed. You will collaborate with doctors, specialists, and other healthcare staff to assess and manage patients, focusing on those with acute medical conditions.
As a travel nurse, you will take on short-term assignments in various healthcare facilities, bringing your telemetry expertise to hospitals in need of immediate support. This role allows you to expand your clinical skills, explore new locations, and work in diverse healthcare environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor Cardiac and Vital Signs: Use specialized telemetry equipment to continuously monitor patient heart rhythms and vital signs, ensuring any abnormalities are identified and treated promptly.
Assess Patient Conditions: Perform regular assessments of patients, monitoring their condition, reviewing EKG results, and collaborating with physicians to determine appropriate care plans.
Administer Medications: Administer medications as prescribed, especially those related to cardiac care, and monitor for potential side effects or adverse reactions.
Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly to respond to changes in patient conditions, including cardiac arrest or other critical events, providing immediate interventions as needed.
Collaborate with Healthcare Teams: Work closely with doctors, cardiologists, and other medical staff to provide comprehensive care to patients with cardiovascular or critical conditions.
Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about cardiac care, medications, lifestyle changes, and post-discharge instructions to promote recovery and prevent complications.
Maintain Accurate Records: Document all care provided, including patient assessments, treatments, medication administration, and changes in condition, in compliance with hospital policies.
Adapt to Various Settings: Quickly adjust to different telemetry units and healthcare systems as you transition between travel assignments.
Job Requirements
Education:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a Telemetry unit, with proficiency in monitoring cardiac patients.
Certifications:
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification preferred but not required.
Licensure:
Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of assignment or a compact/multi-state license.
Skills:
Strong clinical skills in cardiac monitoring and telemetry equipment use.
Ability to interpret and respond to EKG results and other critical cardiac indicators.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, especially in collaborating with cardiologists and healthcare teams.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize care.
Proficiency in administering cardiac medications and responding to emergency situations.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in different telemetry units and hospital environments.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel to various locations for 8- to 13-week assignments.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
