Job Description

As a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) care, you will provide critical care and immediate medical attention to infants, children, and adolescents facing urgent or emergency health issues. This role demands specialized skills in pediatric care and the ability to manage high-pressure situations involving young patients. You will collaborate with pediatricians, emergency doctors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of care for children in emergency situations.


As a travel nurse, you will work on short-term assignments in various pediatric emergency departments, bringing your expertise to healthcare facilities in need of immediate support. This is an exceptional opportunity to expand your pediatric ER skills while experiencing new healthcare environments across the country.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Pediatric Emergency Care: Assess, triage, and treat infants, children, and adolescents with urgent and life-threatening conditions in the pediatric emergency department.

  • Collaborate with Healthcare Team: Work closely with pediatric specialists, emergency physicians, and other healthcare professionals to diagnose, stabilize, and treat young patients.

  • Administer Medications and Treatments: Accurately administer medications and interventions tailored to pediatric patients, ensuring correct dosages and monitoring responses.

  • Monitor Patient Status: Continuously assess and document pediatric patients’ vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatments.

  • Family-Centered Communication: Provide clear and compassionate communication with parents and families, explaining care plans and procedures in a way they can understand.

  • Perform Emergency Procedures: Assist with or perform pediatric-specific emergency procedures such as pediatric resuscitation, airway management, and IV placement.

  • Maintain Accurate Patient Records: Ensure all pediatric care and treatments are documented correctly and thoroughly according to hospital policies.

  • Adapt to Various Settings: Quickly adjust to different pediatric ER environments and hospital systems during travel assignments.

Job Requirements

  • Education

    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as an RN in a Pediatric Emergency Room setting.

  • Certifications

    • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required.

    • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certification preferred

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification is a plus.

  • Licensure:

    • Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of assignment or a compact/multi-state license.

  • Skills:

    • Expertise in pediatric emergency care, including knowledge of pediatric illnesses, injuries, and treatment protocols.

    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in pediatric settings.

    • Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments with young patients and their families.

    • Excellent communication and empathy, particularly when working with children and concerned family members.

    • Proficiency in using pediatric emergency medical equipment.

    • Flexibility and adaptability to transition between different hospital environments.

  • Travel Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel to various locations for 8- to 13-week assignments.

    • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
