Job Description
As a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in the Operating Room (OR), you will play a critical role in assisting surgeons and ensuring patient safety throughout surgical procedures. OR nurses are responsible for preparing patients for surgery, supporting the surgical team during operations, and providing post-operative care. Your role will require exceptional attention to detail, clinical expertise, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure environments.
As a travel nurse, you will take short-term assignments at various healthcare facilities, allowing you to work in different surgical settings and expand your clinical skills. This is an excellent opportunity to experience new locations while making a crucial impact in operating rooms across the country.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare for Surgery: Assist in preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies, ensuring everything is ready for the procedure.
Patient Preparation: Work with the healthcare team to prepare patients for surgery, including verifying patient information, administering medications, and ensuring informed consent.
Assist During Surgery: Provide direct support to surgeons and the surgical team by passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and monitoring patient vitals during the procedure.
Monitor Patient Safety: Ensure patient safety throughout the surgery by closely monitoring vital signs, anesthesia effects, and responding to any complications.
Post-Operative Care: Assist in the recovery process by providing post-surgical care, monitoring patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and ensuring a smooth recovery.
Maintain Sterile Environment: Uphold strict aseptic techniques to prevent infection and contamination during surgeries.
Document Patient Care: Accurately document all aspects of the surgical procedure, including medications administered, surgical interventions, and patient responses.
Adapt to Various Settings: Quickly adapt to different operating room environments and surgical teams as you transition between travel assignments.
Job Requirements
Education:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as an OR Nurse, with expertise in assisting with various surgical procedures.
Certifications:
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.
CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) certification preferred.
Licensure:
Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of assignment or a compact/multi-state license.
Skills:
Strong clinical skills in perioperative nursing, including assisting with surgical procedures and maintaining a sterile environment.
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced surgical settings, remaining calm and efficient during critical moments.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, especially in coordinating with surgeons and the surgical team.
Proficiency in surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, and patient monitoring during surgery.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage preoperative and postoperative patient care.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in different operating rooms and surgical environments.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel to various locations for 8- to 13-week assignments.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
