Job Description
As a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) care, you will be responsible for providing direct patient care to individuals with a variety of medical conditions or recovering from surgery. Med-Surg nurses play a vital role in monitoring patients, administering medications, and coordinating care across diverse patient populations. You will work closely with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
As a travel nurse, you will take short-term assignments at healthcare facilities in need of Med-Surg nursing support. This offers a unique opportunity to broaden your clinical experience, work in diverse settings, and provide crucial care to patients while exploring new locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care Management: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from surgery, managing chronic illnesses, or experiencing acute medical conditions.
Administer Medications: Safely and accurately administer medications, including IVs, and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions.
Monitor Patient Conditions: Continuously assess patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment, and report any changes to the medical team.
Wound Care and Post-Surgical Care: Perform wound care, manage drains, dressings, and ensure proper post-surgical recovery processes.
Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and their families on treatment plans, medication management, and discharge instructions to promote recovery and self-care.
Collaborate with Healthcare Teams: Work closely with doctors, specialists, and other nurses to coordinate care and ensure that patients receive the appropriate interventions.
Document Patient Care: Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Adapt to Various Settings: Quickly adjust to different Med-Surg environments and hospital protocols as you transition between travel assignments.
Job Requirements
Education:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in a Medical-Surgical unit.
Certifications:
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred but not required.
Licensure:
Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of assignment or a compact/multi-state license.
Skills:
Strong clinical skills in medical-surgical care, including patient assessment, medication administration, and post-operative care.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, especially when working with interdisciplinary teams.
Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize care in fast-paced environments.
Proficiency in using medical equipment such as IV pumps, wound care tools, and telemetry monitors.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in managing a variety of medical and surgical patient needs.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in different Med-Surg units and hospital environments.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel to various locations for 8- to 13-week assignments.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
