Job Description

As a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Labor and Delivery (L&D), you will provide comprehensive care to mothers and their newborns during one of the most critical and life-changing events. Your responsibilities will include supporting mothers through labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery while ensuring the health and safety of both mother and baby. You will work closely with obstetricians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to manage labor complications, provide emotional support, and monitor fetal well-being.


As a travel nurse, you will take short-term assignments in various healthcare facilities, allowing you to experience different labor and delivery environments across the country. This position offers a unique opportunity to expand your clinical skills while bringing your expertise to hospitals in need of immediate support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Labor and Delivery: Monitor the labor process, administer medications, and assist with deliveries, including natural and cesarean births.

  • Monitor Maternal and Fetal Health: Continuously assess the well-being of both mother and baby, including monitoring fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs.

  • Provide Emotional Support: Offer compassionate care and emotional support to mothers and families during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.

  • Administer Medications and Interventions: Safely administer epidurals, pain medications, and other necessary treatments, ensuring accurate dosage and monitoring of side effects.

  • Educate Mothers and Families: Provide patient education on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care to ensure a smooth transition to life at home.

  • Manage Complications: Quickly recognize and respond to obstetrical emergencies, such as fetal distress, hemorrhage, or preeclampsia, and assist with emergency interventions.

  • Document Patient Care: Accurately document labor progression, treatments, and patient responses in compliance with hospital protocols.

  • Adapt to Various Settings: Quickly adjust to different Labor and Delivery environments and hospital systems as you transition between travel assignments.

Job Requirements

  • Education:

    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Labor and Delivery, with expertise in managing the labor and birth process.

  • Certifications:

    • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred.

    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required.

    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification preferred.

  • Licensure:

    • Active, unrestricted RN license in the state of assignment or a compact/multi-state license.

  • Skills:

    • Strong clinical skills in labor and delivery, including experience in natural births, C-sections, and managing labor complications.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in providing emotional support and patient education.

    • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress environments, especially during emergency situations.

    • Proficiency in monitoring fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs.

    • Knowledge of postpartum care, breastfeeding support, and newborn care.

    • Flexibility and adaptability to work in various labor and delivery settings.

  • Travel Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel to various locations for 8- to 13-week assignments.

    • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
